Which lilies are toxic to cats?
True lilies (Lilium spp.) and Hemerocallis (daylilies) are highly toxic: Easter lily, Tiger lily, Asiatic lily, Oriental lily, Stargazer lily. Even pollen, leaves, or water from the vase can cause kidney failure. Not toxic: Peace lily, Lily of the Valley (different toxin), Calla lily.
How much lily is toxic to cats?
Ingestion of as little as 2-3 petals or leaves, or exposure to pollen (grooming pollen off fur), can cause acute kidney failure. There is no safe amount — any exposure requires emergency veterinary treatment.
How long after lily ingestion do symptoms appear?
Vomiting and lethargy begin within 1-6 hours. Kidney damage is detectable within 12-24 hours. Without treatment, kidney failure develops within 24-72 hours and is often fatal. Early IV fluid therapy is critical.
